The Florida Cracker Chapter meets the 3rd Thursday of every month at Brasington’s Adventure Outfitters, 2331 NW 13 ST, Gainesville (next to Albertson’s) at 6:30pm. Check out the meeting page for meeting dates and topics.

FLORIDA CRACKER CHAPTER

CALL FOR CHAPTER CHAIR

The Florida Cracker Chapter is in need of filling its Chapter Chair position. The position is an elected position that runs for 2 years with no limit to number of consecutive terms. The job duties are asfollows:

1. Preside at chapter meetings (10 mtgs/yr - 2 of which are social gatherings, December & May).

2. Appoint Committee Chairs with assistance from Chapter Executive Committee.

3. Serve as liaison between the Florida Trail Association and the Florida Crackers Chapter.

4. Receive and act upon mail from the Florida Trail Association office.

5. Receive and act upon requests for information, public events, conference participation, etc. with assistance from the Chapter Executive Committee.

6. Submit brief “Chair’s Corner” to Chapter newsletter.

7. Call Chapter Executive Committee meetings once each quarter and whenever deemed necessary.

8. The Chapter Chair shall be elected for a term of two years by a plurality vote of the members present at the April meeting in the odd numbered years, and shall take office at the conclusion of that meeting.

The Florida Cracker chapter has an active and responsive Executive Committee but has been unable to find a willing replacement for its outgoing leader. If you’re good at leading others and are interested in getting more involved with the Florida Trail Association, this is your opportunity to become a fundamental part of the organization. BOW

BOW is an award-winning outdoor skills program for women over the age of 18 who would like to learn the outdoor skills usually associated with hunting and fishing and a variety of other outdoor activities. Workshops are offered 3 times a year by the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC) in various locations around the state.

If you take a walk on the Florida Trail/Greenways lately you will notice 3 improved campsites with picnic tables and benches, plus two additional benches along the trail… Thanks go to troop 112 from Ocala for doing all the work. I’m sure we will use their benches for a rest when we hike. The two new benches along the trail are located just west of the land bridge and by the first dig coming from Ross Prairie also going west.
