Jim Weimer, biologist at Paynes Prairie Preserve
State Park, will explain the Sweetwater
Branch Project there. Years ago a ditch was
dug to channel run-off from the City of Gainesville
into the Alachua Sink. The water and its
pollutants go directly into the Aquifer. The
Sweetwater Branch Project will restore the
natural filtering sheet flow of water into the
Prairie. A knowledgeable and enjoyable
speaker, Jim will explain how they are correcting
the problem.

As a new member, I thoroughly enjoyed last evening’s meeting for October at Brasington Trail Shop. Kathy Malone was very informative and entertaining with her presentation on butterflies. She was very kind to bring wonderful materials to share with all of us as well as prizes for the games. Looking forward to work days and outdoor activities as well as the Butterfly Festival this weekend.
