FOURTH ANNUAL WALK ACROSS MARION COUNTY

Please join the Florida Trail Hikers for our Fourth Annual Walk across Marion County.  Each week beginning January 30th,  we will walk a different section of the Florida Trail until we have completed all the sections in Marion County.  This is an excellent  opportunity to learn where the various trailheads are located in our area. We plan to meet each week at Santos Campground at 8:30 am. and carpool to the various trailheads.

January 30:  Marshall Swamp trailhead to Baseline trailhead                                                 5 miles

February 6:  Baseline trailhead to Santos trailhead                                                                 4.5 miles

February 13:  Santos trailhead to Landbridge trailhead                                                             7 miles

February 20:  Landbridge trailhead to 49th Avenue trailhead via Blue-Loop                         4.5 miles

February 27:  49th Ave trailhead to the Ross Prairie trailhead via the Eastern Blue-Blaze  7 miles

March 6:  Ross Prairie trailhead to Pruitt trailhead via the Western Blue-Blaze              5.9 miles

To kick-off this activity, on week 1 Master Gardner, James Davis, from the Sumter County Extension Service will be our hike interpreter and share his vast knowledge of the flora and fauna along the way.  Mr. Davis is presently the Extension agent for the Florida Yards and Neighborhoods program. Other surprise guest hikers/speakers will attend during other weeks.
